Magnolia campbellii

The painter of this image is unknown. It was made for John Fergusson Cathcart (1802-1851), who went to Calcutta in 1822 and served in the Bengal Civil Service. He commissioned Indian artists to illustrate various plants. From the painting, Walter Hood Fitch made this lithograph, which was hand colored, for J. D. Hooker's 1855 volume, Illustrations of Himalayan Plants.
